Context of the Event
The Isra’ is the remarkable night journey of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Mecca to Masjid al-Aqsa. The Mi’raj is his ascension through the heavens. This event happened about one year before the Hijrah, during a difficult and important time in the Prophet’s life.
Authenticity in Islam
Qur’an 17:1
“Exalted is He who took His servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa…” (Qur’an 17:1)
Hadith (Sahih al-Bukhari 3887)
“I was brought a white animal called Buraq, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, whose stride was as far as the eye could see. I mounted it…” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3887)
Scholars firmly assert that Isra’ wal Mi’raj was a real, physical journey, not merely a dream. Early reactions included skepticism, but respected scholars such as At-Tahawi and Ibn Abi’l-‘Izz confirmed its authenticity and miraculous reality.
Classical scholars describe Isra wal Miraj as a physical journey beyond time and space. When we explore it from the Islamic perspective on time travel, it becomes clear that divine intervention transcends the boundaries defined by modern science
